Tri-Five LS swap fitment notes

  • Pick the Moroso high clearance pan or the LH8 pan. The LH8 must be trimmed to clear the 1955-1957 frame, and the guide shows how much.
  • Most factory LS accessory drives work. A low-mount A/C compressor hits the frame, so move it up top with a Kwik Performance bracket kit.
  • With a T-56, the body seam in the transmission tunnel is cut for relief and then flattened with a hammer and dolly.
  • The frame brackets butt up against the frame rivets. You mark and drill the mounting holes through the frame.
  • The crossmember brackets also need new holes, plus 1 inch access holes on the outside of the frame.
  • With the steering centered, expect about 2 inches between the drag link and the oil pan, and about 3/8 inch at full left lock.
  • The Sure-Fit crossmember is listed for 1955-1957 Chevrolets except convertibles. The long tube headers include convertibles.
  • The Muscle Rods headers are designed to bolt in with this kit.

1955-1957 Chevy LS swap FAQ

Which Tri-Five cars can I build a kit for?

The kit builder lists the 1955-1957 Chevy 150, 210, Bel Air and Delray. Convertibles are not covered.

Which oil pan should I use in a 55-57 Chevy?

The kit is designed for the Moroso high clearance pan or the LH8 pan. The LH8 pan fits once it is trimmed where the install guide shows.

Do I need different fuel tanks for a Nomad or wagon?

Yes. Sedans and hardtops use the 1955-1956 or 1957 tank. The Nomad, station wagon and sedan delivery have their own tanks, also split 1955-1956 and 1957.

Does a T-56 fit in the Tri-Five tunnel?

Yes, after work on the tunnel. The body seam in the tunnel has to be relief cut and flattened. The guide also gives a different crossmember bracket height for the T-56 than for a 4L60E.
