1968-1972 A-Body header notes

  • BRP built these headers around a floor shifter. A column shift car needs linkage changes or a cable actuated linkage.
  • High-mount A/C and alternator brackets are required on the 68-72 A-Body to clear the frame.
  • Pulling the starter, valve covers or spark plugs is sometimes needed to fit the headers on a 1968-1972 car.
  • The guide recommends the High Clearance oil pan, which sits flush with the front crossmember; the old LH8 pan hangs about 1.5 inch lower.

1968-1972 A-Body LS exhaust FAQ

What headers does BRP sell for a 1968-1972 Chevelle LS swap?

Two 1-7/8 inch ceramic coated designs, long tube and mid-length, listed on the parent A-Body swap page. This page covers the clamps, reducers and bolts used with them.

Will the headers work with a column shift 1970 Chevelle or GTO?

Not as delivered. The guide says the headers are designed around a floor shifter, so a column shift needs modified linkage or a cable actuated setup.

Do I need special accessory brackets with headers on a 68-72 A-Body?

Yes. The guide says high-mount A/C and alternator brackets are required to clear the frame.

How do I fit a 3 inch collector to 2-1/2 inch pipe on a 1968-1972 Cutlass?

Use the 3 to 2-1/2 inch cone reducers, sold as a pair, and close each joint with a band clamp in the matching size.
