1971-1976 B-Body header notes

Long tube headers on this body mean removing the front crossmember frame brace. Mid-length headers fit with the brace left in.
The stock column shift linkage clears both header styles and lines up with the 4L60E shift shaft, per the guide.
Headers also clear the long shift shaft on the 4L60E.
Factory 98-02 F-Body A/C hits the frame here, so the guide requires the MuscleRods high mount A/C bracket.

BRP lists 1-7/8 inch ceramic coated long tube and mid-length headers for the 1971-1976 B-Body on the parent swap page; the long tube listing names the Caprice and Impala.

Do I have to remove anything for long tubes on a 1974 Impala?

Yes. The guide says the front crossmember frame brace must come out for the long tube headers. The mid-length headers do not need it removed.

Can I keep the column shifter in a 71-76 Caprice with headers?

Yes, if it is the factory linkage. On a 71-76 B-Body it clears mid-length and long tube headers alike and matches up with the 4L60E shift shaft.
