1962-1967 Nova header and exhaust notes

  • The BRP mounts move the LS to the center of the Nova engine bay, where the factory engine sat offset to the passenger side.
  • Check the gap at the back of the driver side head. The guide gives 3/8 inch to the firewall bulge as the target and says the firewall may need work.
  • Headers for this kit are laid out around a floor shift linkage, so a column shift car needs linkage changes.
  • The guide says Muscle Rods headers are designed to bolt in with this kit. None are listed on the Nova pages right now.

1962-1967 Chevy II Nova LS exhaust FAQ

Are headers sold for a 1962-1967 Nova LS swap?

The guide says BRP Muscle Rods headers bolt in with the Nova kit, but no header is listed on the Nova pages today. This page carries the clamps, reducers and bolts.

How much room is there behind the driver side head in a Chevy II?

The guide targets 3/8 inch from the firewall bulge. GM build tolerances vary, so some cars need the firewall reworked.

Which clamp should I use on a 3 inch Nova exhaust?

The 3 inch stainless band clamp. If that joint also needs an O2 sensor, use the 3 inch O2 sensor band clamp instead.

My Nova has a column shifter. Is that a problem for the exhaust?

For the headers it can be. The guide says they are designed around a floor shift linkage and a column linkage needs modifications.
