1968 - 1972 A-Body LS Transmission Mount Adapters

Transmission mount adapters for 1968-1972 Chevelle, El Camino, GTO, Cutlass and other A-Body LS swaps. Each one bolts to a TR-6060, CTS-V T-56, MG9, 6L90E, 8L90E or 10L90E tailshaft and gives it a conventional mount pad.

  • Crossmembers vary by body style and transmission
  • Outer brackets bolt into existing frame holes
  • Hardware included with both manual adapters

The 1968-1972 A-Body LS install guide explains the ordering details and tunnel cuts. Mounts, headers and radiators are on the 1968-1972 A-Body LS swap page.

Pairing adapter and gearbox

  • Chevelle or Cutlass with a standard TR-6060 or CTS-V T-56: the black 3/16 inch steel adapter with hardware fits.
  • The CTS-V MG9 is a high-torque TR-6060, so it takes the separate MG9 adapter.
  • A 6L90E from a 2009-2014 CTS-V uses the 6L90E tailshaft adapter.
  • The 8L90E adapter is shared by the 10L90E and is meant for BRP crossmembers.

1968-1972 A-Body transmission notes

  • When ordering, BRP needs the year, make, model, body style (convertible or hardtop) and transmission, since A-Body crossmembers vary.
  • A T56, TR6060, 6L80E, 6L90E or 8L90E means cutting and widening the A-Body tunnel and adding a filler panel.
  • The 4L60E through 4L80E four speed automatics clear the factory A-Body tunnel.
  • Outer crossmember brackets and frame mounts bolt into holes already in the frame.
  • Column shift cars need modified or cable linkage, since the headers are designed around a floor shifter.
  • BRP lists a 1968-1972 A-Body hardtop crossmember; the convertible and El Camino version is not currently active.

1968-1972 A-Body LS transmission mount FAQ

Why does BRP ask if my A-Body is a convertible or hardtop?

The 1968-1972 A-Body guide says crossmembers vary by type, so the order needs the body style and the transmission.

Will an 8L90E fit a 1970 Chevelle without cutting?

No. The guide lists the 8L90E with the transmissions that need the tunnel cut, widened at the rear and closed with a filler panel.

What adapter does a 10L90E use in an A-Body?

The 8L90E Transmission Mount Adapter, which covers both 8L90E and 10L90E tailshaft housings. The A-Body guide itself does not mention the 10L90E.

Do I drill the frame for the crossmember brackets?

Not per the guide. The outer crossmember brackets bolt into existing holes in the frame.
