1955 - 1957 Chevy LS Accessory Drives

LS accessory drives for 1955-1957 Chevy swaps. The tri five guide says most OEM accessory drives can be used, but a low mounted LS A/C compressor hits the frame, so A/C has to sit on top of the engine. BRP lists High Mount A/C drives with the compressor and alternator and power steering drives, each for Short, Medium and Long balancers.

  • Most OEM drives usable per the guide
  • Low A/C compressors hit the frame
  • A/C drives include the compressor

Read the 1955-1957 Chevy LS install guide for pan and steering clearance. Mounts, the crossmember and headers are on the 1955-1957 Chevy LS page.

Each drive name ends in its balancer length. Measure or look up the balancer on your engine, then pick the matching drive.

1955-1957 Chevy guide notes

  • Most OEM LS accessory drives work in a tri five; low mount A/C is the exception.
  • The kit is designed for the BRP Moroso high clearance pan or an LH8 pan trimmed to clear the frame.
  • With the steering centered, expect about 2 inches between the drag link and the front of the pan.
  • At full left lock that gap drops to about 3/8 inch, so check it after the bolts are snug.

1955-1957 Chevy LS accessory drive FAQ

Can I use the stock LS accessory drive in a 1957 Chevy?

The tri five guide says most OEM accessory drives can be used. The exception is a low mount A/C compressor, which will not clear the frame.

How do I keep A/C on an LS in a 1955-1957 Chevy?

Mount the compressor up top. The High Mount A/C drives on this page include a compressor.

Does the oil pan affect a tri five LS swap?

Yes. The guide names the BRP Moroso high clearance pan or a trimmed LH8 pan, then a drag link clearance check.

Short, Medium or Long for my Bel Air?

Go by the balancer on your engine. BRP does not publish an engine list for each length.
