1971 - 1976 B-Body LS Transmission Mount Adapters

Transmission mount adapters for LS swaps in the 1971-1976 Impala and other full size B-Body cars. Bolt one to a TR-6060, CTS-V T-56, MG9, 6L90E, 8L90E or 10L90E tailshaft and the gearbox gets a standard mount pad for the crossmember.

  • 4L60E and 4L80E need no tunnel work
  • 6L80E and 6L90E need tailshaft area tunnel mods
  • Crossmember brackets use original frame holes

Tunnel notes by gearbox are in the 1971-1976 B-Body LS install guide. Mounts, headers and radiators are on the 1971-1976 B-Body LS page.

Picking the Impala adapter

  • Camaro TR-6060 or CTS-V T-56 behind the LS: the 3/16 inch steel adapter, powder coated black.
  • CTS-V MG9 high torque TR-6060: the MG9 adapter and its hardware.
  • Six speed 6L90E out of a 2009-2014 CTS-V: the 6L90E adapter.
  • Eight speed 8L90E or ten speed 10L90E: the shared 8L90E adapter.

1971-1976 B-Body transmission notes

  • Per the guide, a 4L60E fits with no tunnel mods, and a 4L80E fits as well.
  • A 6L80E or 6L90E needs tunnel mods around the tailshaft housing.
  • A T-56 needs tunnel mods around the shifter.
  • The crossmember brackets have several mounting positions because these cars came on different frames for different transmissions.
  • The stock column shift linkage lines up with the 4L60E shift shaft and clears both header styles.
  • BRP also lists the 1971-1976 B-Body Sure-Fit crossmember on its own.

1971-1976 Impala LS transmission mount FAQ

Will a 4L80E fit a 1971-1976 Impala with an LS?

Yes. The B-Body guide says the 4L80E fits, and the 4L60E needs no tunnel mods.

Does a 6L90E need floor work in a 1971-1976 B-Body?

Yes. The guide says the 6L80E and 6L90E need tunnel mods at the tailshaft housing area.

Why are there several crossmember bracket positions?

These cars used different frames depending on the transmission, so the guide gives more than one mounting position. The brackets go through the original crossmember holes.

Can I keep column shift in my 1971-1976 Impala?

The guide says the stock column shift linkage clears the mid length and long tube headers and lines up with the 4L60E.
